A symposium built against the long lecture
ISCO is a 2.5-day international educational symposium focused on fundamental concepts, current practice, and controversial issues in pediatric orthopedics.
The programme combines short provocative lectures, focused instructive case discussions, participant cases, meet-the-expert sessions, hands-on workshops, and fireside debates between senior experts.
Every element has a fixed clock. A lecture is seven minutes, not fifteen. A case is ten minutes with explicit decision points, not an open-ended discussion. A controversy is a structured debate with a timed crossfire and an audience poll — not two consecutive talks that happen to disagree.

Instructive Case Discussion
Ten minutes each, with 1–2 introductory evidence slides, one case, decision points, and take-home messages.
15 min
Fireside Debate
2 min framing · 4 min pro position · 4 min con position · 3 min moderated crossfire · 2 min audience poll and take-home message.
60 min
Meet-the-Expert & Hands-on
Concurrent tracks: small-group sessions with senior faculty, or a practical hands-on workshop.

Sixty minutes, four arguments, no consensus required
Each 60-minute controversy block runs as four 15-minute fireside debates. The clock is strict and identical for every debate:
- 2 minutes — framing the question
- 4 minutes — pro position
- 4 minutes — con position
- 3 minutes — moderated crossfire
- 2 minutes — audience poll and take-home message
There are two controversy blocks in the programme — eight debates in total, covering guided growth, DDH after walking age, CP hip displacement, limb reconstruction, early-onset scoliosis, pediatric ACL injuries, unstable SCFE, and the extent of pediatric trauma fixation.
Who should attend
Pediatric orthopedic surgeons, general orthopedic surgeons treating children, fellows and residents in training, and allied professionals working in pediatric musculoskeletal care. The case-based format is designed to be useful at every level of experience — the debates assume you already know the standard answer and want to know why it is contested.
